Vincenzo Paterno has owned the Agricola Spedalotto since 2010. The 42-hectare estate is situated on Monti Iblei near Ragusa in southern Sicily. Here Vincenzo organically farms the 7,500 Tonda Iblea olive trees, native to the area. Its location, high on the mountain ridge, (known as 'Sicily's balcony') is ideal for olive growing; the altitude and climate help the health of the olives along with the limestone soil. The land is under strict control of a Denominazione di Origine Protetta (D.O.P), ensuring the very highest quality finished product. The olives are harvested while still green, just before they start to ripen to black. The result is a perfectly balanced classic Sicilian olive oil, winner of five gold medals at the NYIOOC, and recipient of 3 stars at the 2025 Great Taste awards, that reflects Vincenzo’s dedication to quality and the unique character of the land.
