Sindyanna of Galilee
Sindyanna of Galilee is a female-led non-profit organisation that promotes ‘business for peace’. They follow Fair Trade principals - they are the only certified Fair Trade olive oil producers in Israel - and they channel all of their profits back into Arab women's education. They work hard to bridge cultural divides, encourage sustainable agricultural methods and support organic farming.
The workers are Israeli Arab and Jewish women who share a vision of peaceful coexistence and work together to produce high quality products. These women support and empower one another creating a social cohesion, and enabling them to become agents of change within their communities.
Alongside other local organisations, they transformed a derelict firing range and created an organic olive grove. By combining sustainable cultivation with modern techniques they produce award winning olive oils.
Until recently Arab farmers in Israel mainly cultivated the Souri olive, native to the region, but technical advances, including the introduction of irrigation, has allowed them to introduce new cultivars to Israel which a suitable to their unique microclimate and terroir.
