Set in the Western Cape region of South Africa, the Morgenster estate nestles in the foothills of the Helderberg mountains, where Giulio Bertrand has planted more than 14 Italian olive varieties, selected from the bestÂ grown in all regions from north to south,Â to make this internationally acclaimed oil, along with his vineyards and an olive tree nursery. The oil has consistently gained 97 points in the respected Flos Olei Olive Oil Guide since 2010, with 98 points being awarded in the 2014 guide - the highest score ever given. Ever at the forefront of technological advances, Bertrand has built a long-term partnership with the Olive Oil Research Institute of Italy from which he imports the worldâ€™s most up to date olive tree cultivars and production technology.
The nose is fresh and grassy, with notes of walnut skins and ripening tomatoes. Salad leaves mingle with a softer nutty note in the mouth, balanced by a peppery rocket hitting the back of the throat and uplifting bitter leaf flavours.Â
